New 110-metre concept from Gill Schmid Design makes extensive use of glazing technology

The 110-metre Halycon 110M concept from Gill Schmid is a yacht of vast deck spaces, but the inside experience hasn’t been ignored. Much work has gone into exploiting the use of advanced glazing techniques to create a superstructure out of floor-to-ceiling undulating windows in a combination of white glass and reflective glass.

To enhance guest privacy, the white one-way glass is transparent from the inside and opaque  from outside. “The idea is for the glazing in the accommodation areas to blend in seamlessly with the white superstructure, creating one entity,” says Gill Schmid Design.

On deck, there is some seriously special real estate – two glass-bottomed swimming pools dominate the after areas of the main and the bridge deck, one on the main deck and one staggered in section on the upper deck. The main-deck pool is a monster, and both are connected with a waterfall flowing between the two levels. “This creates the effect of terraced aft deck spaces or a somewhat landscaped and tiered arrangement, offering physical and visual sectional connections,” says Gill Schmid. Plunge pools – or ‘infinity Jacuzzis’ – in the transom corners add another feature, while the main-deck pool itself is a monster that benefits from a shaded part under the deck above.

Inside features include an owner’s suite with his’n’hers saunas, six guest and two VIP suites, a casino, a forward-facing formal dining area with panoramic views, and a retractable forward glass facade on the observation deck. The expansive beach club includes a gymnasium, sauna, plunge pool and massage areas, and there’s full helicopter landing on the observation deck, plus an additional retractable touch-and-go heli-operation on the main deck aft. There is room on board for an Icon aircraft and submarine storage, plus crew quarters for 37.
