CCN and Floating Life unveil the 42.5-metre Commander

The steel-and-aluminium yacht from Cerri Cantieri Navali and Floating Life promises extensive cruising

Commander

The 42.5-metre Commander is based on the hull of the 40-metre K40 currently in build, and is also a collaboration between Cerri Cantieri Navali and Swiss-headquartered Floating Life. Commander has been strengthened to Light Ice Class and has been designed by Studio Sculli.

A key appeal of Commander is that it combines the best of elements of a traditional explorer yacht and a superyacht support vessel. “The design of the C415 is a compromise between different types of yachts, combined with the wish to include elements that would immediately and clearly reflect CCN’s distinctive style,” says Mauro Sculli of Studio Sculli. The main deck aft serves as the place to stow the yacht’s ten-metre main tender, a smaller tender and a PWC, though it easily converts to a sunbathing and conversation area.

The Commander’s top deck is given over to the owner, and features a master suite and a private pool at the bow. There’s a second infinity-edge pool for guests on the upper deck, which has a salon amidships and the bridge forward. Forward on the main deck is a dining room, with some fine views and direct access to an outdoor lounge area. Two lower-deck VIPs benefit from folding terraces.

The Commander 415 will be powered by twin CAT C32s, with a projected top speed speed of 15 knots, and a cruising speed of 12 knots with a range of 5,400 miles. A bi-fuel solution is currently being explored. “As with the K Series we are currently developing, this project has focused our attention in particular on system efficiency and easy maintenance. We have tried to make this project extremely versatile and able to cruise in all sea and weather conditions. The experience we gained building the K40 proved that we and CCN share common objectives – great care for product quality, and the same ethics and working philosophy towards our customers,” says Andrea Pezzini, Floating Life’s CEO.
