Five futuristic design concepts at MYS

The Monaco Yacht Show is the perfect playground for designers to launch their concepts, however radical, into the superyacht stratosphere and gain valuable feedback from potential owners. Here we look at five being showcased at this year's event.

Dynasty 128m

Designer Arthur Barbeito

Being shown at the MYS this year is a 128-metre from Dynasty Yachts with a striking axe-bow and bold exterior styling. The decks are packed with features, including an upper deck cinema, six main-deck VIP suites with private folding terraces and a 200 square metre owner’s suite. The sundeck is split between a fully-compliant helideck aft and a comfortable entertaining space with large seating areas. A sky lounge and hi-tech bridge are placed forward.

Turquoise Vitruvius

Designer Vitruvius Yachts

Key features of this Philippe Briand-designed yacht are the streamlined lines and the extensive use of big windows. A lower-deck wellness area has a sauna, hammam and hydrotherapy room, with a folding beach club aft. The owner’s stateroom on the upper deck boasts wonderful sea views, a private lounge, an office, terrace with hot tub and direct access to the helipad. Not just a concept any longer, as the yacht is currently in build.

Piriou YSV-63

Designer Piriou

In keeping with the current trend for rugged explorers and support vessels, French yard Piriou has unveiled a versatile 63-metre support vessel. A helideck can take a unit up to 5,000 kg, such as an EC155, and facilities for six specialist divers. There’s even an owner’s and guests’ salon for temporary transit, such as after helicopter transfer or post water sports.

MYS

Purity 90m

Designer Cyrille Bieri Designs

Pride Megayachts, whose 88.8-metre Illusion is in build at the Chinese yard, has unveiled this elegant 90-metre with an eye-catching slipper stern and rounded aft decks. The design is at once both very classic and futuristic, with its sharply angled windows balancing out the aft lines. Not much more is known about the yacht – the yard plans to unveil the full concept at the show.

Designer Unique Yacht Design

A little more than a designer’s fancy, a contract has been signed and she will be delivered from the Turkish yard in 2019. The infinity pool on the main deck aft is a great feature, and it connects with the whole beach club complex. The pool’s glass bottom helps to illuminate the area below, which boasts its own sea water pool, and there is a folding side terrace that really opens up the space.
