Delta Project 174046 in build

The build of Delta's latest 53.3-metre, featuring an aluminium hull and a composite superstructure, is under way at the Seattle-based yard

With exterior and interior styling by Seattle-based designer Jonathan Quinn Barnett, along with the Delta Design Group and the clients, the Delta Project 174046 has been configured with a shallow draught for Bahamas and Caribbean cruising. “The clients liked the style and build calibre of Silver Shalis [a 55-metre launched at Delta in 2010], and this project expands upon the technical achievements of that build,” says Delta’s chief naval architect Jay Miner. Jonathan Quinn Barnett was responsible for the exterior design of Silver Shalis along with the late Bill Langan.

“Working as a dedicated team and utilising shared 3D computer modelling, we have maintained the elegance of a long, low yacht that is more hull in appearance than house, while achieving greater usable guest spaces – greater than aboard larger vessels,” says Jonathan Quinn Barnett.

“Jonathan Barnett’s exterior styling gives a fresh and forward look to a proven hull design,” Jay Miner adds. The yard says that yacht has “superior glazing dimensions for unobstructed sightlines — something quite unique when considering the interior volume and open deck viewing spaces with windbreaks”.

Twelve guests are accommodated in six staterooms, including a bridge-deck VIP and a full-beam master suite on the main deck. Jonathan Barnett’s interior is in a style he dubs “new American classicism”, with multiple contrasting veneers, stones with paint finishes, and he’s worked hard to make that not of the furniture appears built-in. There is room for 12 crew, while headroom is impressive throughout, with door casings that allow for 6ft 10in clearance. Outdoor guests spaces are generous, too, with a sundeck that includes a huge pool with a mosaiced ‘beach area’ and a waterfall feature.

“Building at home, in the US, was very important to the owners, and Delta was the premier choice based on its history, facility and family-style business model,” says the yacht’s captain Mitchell Heath, who is managing the project.
