The 51.3-metre steel-and-aluminium Columbus Tomahawk is ready to do battle with anything the oceans can throw at it
The Columbus Tomahawk 52 explorer yacht has been conceived, according to designer Marco Casali, as “a yacht within a ship”. With its suitably ‘battle axe’ bow, the key feature of the yacht is the spacious aft deck and beach club. It’s a flexible area that has three distinct levels and offers over 200 square metres of guest space. The section amidships outside the main-deck salon has seating and sunpads, and then there are steps down to a tender storage area. There’s a crane here, too, and room for storing two 12-metre tenders. There’s also a garage below the main-deck for stowing PWCs, motorbikes and even a mini-submarine.
Once everything is deployed, the garage converts to an aft-deck pool, and if that’s not enough, the pool can be covered and the flush deck can be utilised as a three-quarters basketball court, or whatever suits the guests. There are further steps aft down to the ample swim platform, and more toy storage forward under the foredeck. Beneath the main-deck seating there is a gym and spa area, with views aft. A large bimini – lifted in place by the crane – covers much of the open aft-deck spaces, while the sundeck boasts an MCA-compliant helipad.
Accommodation in the initial GA shows four guest suites on the lower deck. The upper deck is given over to the owner, with a spacious office and salon, and sheltered dining on the aft deck. The main deck has a salon amidships with a formal dining area forward – “a unique space with an American bar and a cinema/karaoke space”, says Marco Casali.
