New Zealand gears up for 2017 Millennium Cup

The regatta will once again be held in the stunning Bay of Islands.

Millennium Cup

The countdown is on,

with just one week to go until the Millennium Cup regatta is held in New Zealand’s Bay of Islands. New entries and returning names make the 2017 edition look set to be one of the best yet.

New entries include 37-metre Royal Huisman Pumula and 42.9-metre Baltic Yachts Cavallo. A conversation in the South Pacific between the owners of the two yachts resulted in them signing up to race against the returning names such as 39.7-metre Alloy Yachts Janice of Wyoming and 33-metre Yachting Developments Silvertip. Last year’s winner Tawera is also set to return, and new to the event is 31.7-metre Southern Wind Farfalla.

Millennium Cup sponsor Orams Marine have been working on some of the yachts, getting them into top shape for the racing as well as undertaking annual refit and repair. Janice of Wyoming underwent an annual service and comprehensive extra work while Farfalla received the installation of a removable inner forestay and removable bowsprit.

With just one week to go, the weather is looking good and thoughts are turning to the regatta. Stay tuned for our daily reports on the day’s events during the racing, 24-27th January.
