Nobiskrug’s 111-metre Project Ascendance

The 111-metre from Andy Waugh Yacht Design is hybrid powered and incorporates carbon fibre in the construction to save weight

With naval architecture by Nobiskrug, Project Ascendance is a claimed 25% lighter than a conventional yacht of similar specification. The slender, low-volume hull and the major bulkheads will be fabricated in steel, while the upper structures will be almost entirely built in carbon to improve stability and passenger comfort.

“The exterior styling of the concept disguises the practical nature of the vessel using a strong diagonal feature and segmented graphical elements to add dynamism and lightness,” says Andy Waugh. “The steeply angled bow creates a sense of strength and solidity, while the elegantly sloping aft structures give the impression of speed and efficiency. The solid elements of the bulwarks rise and fall, giving way to glass in specific areas, enhancing the sense of openness and natural light in the interior.”

A key exterior feature is the helipad forward on the owner’s deck, which expands and retracts to provide a regulation landing zone without compromising the styling of the vessel. On the bridge deck there is an intimate fire-pit area sunk into the deck, while the pool on the main deck boasts a waterfall feature.

The initial design for the accommodation areas shows a main-deck salon and upper-deck dining area connected by a feature staircase and atrium. Above the main deck is an owner’s deck, with 180˚ views forward from the suite, through the angled windows. There are eight guest cabins situated on the main deck forward. The interior of Project Ascendance has been developed with design house MYDco.

On the lower deck aft, folding shell doors on either side open up the 180-square-metre gym and beach lounge, with a spa club forward. A tropical fish tank creates playful reflections onto the limestone floor, which is shaped to mimic the rippled sand in a shallow lagoon. Behind this fish tank and set under the glass bottom of the main-deck swimming pool is a cosy Zen lounge that transforms into an intimate, private movie snug. There is also a dedicated cinema amidships on the upper deck, offering the full cinematic experience.

On the bridge deck aft there is a smoking and poker lounge, with a curved bar facing out towards the seductive glow of the fire-pit area. The sundeck boasts two shower rooms serving the fore and after areas.

“The design will appeal to clients looking for something modern and exciting but with classic elegance and no compromise on usability. The Ascendance project is a fully resolved, ‘ready to build’ concept,” says Andy Waugh.

The concept will be showcased at the Monaco Yacht Show later this month on the stands of Nobiskrug and Y.CO.
