KAMINIA fishing village, beaches & port in Hydra Featured
Kaminia is a picturesque tiny fishing port, situated between Vlihos and Hydra Town. It has two beaches: The smaller, which is called Mikro (Little) Kamini, and the larger yet not large (where the port is actually located) is called Megalo (Large) Kamini. Mikro Kamini has clear shallow waters and is ideal for children. Megalo Kamini beach is located right in front of the port's docks. The whole area is beautiful and traditional and has a few tavernas with excellent sew views. A hotel has opened recently, accomodated in the beautifully renovated old stone bulding on the beach. It offers a nice cafe restaurant with sea view.
Access to Kaminia from the town of Hydra is quite easy. It takes about 15-20 min on foot to reach the it, via the beautiful coastal path. You may also catch a sea–taxi. If you want to visit Kaminia with a private or rented boat you will probably not be able to find a place on the dock, because it is very small and usually full of fishing boats.
Needless to say that the beches get easily crowded, due to their small size and their proximity to the town.
Beach evaluation: Beaches are not Hydra's strong point. So we would rate these beaches with only 1 star, if compared with the hundreds of other marvelous Greek beaches. However, we evalute the whole Kamina village with 3 stars, because it has a charming atmosphere and it is one of the best choices near Hydra's Town.
Don't miss: In case you visit in Hydra during the Greek Orthodox Easter, don't miss the unique Epitaph celebration that takes place in Kamini, in Good Friday's night. The majestic service is held outdoors where the the faithfull's candlelights sparkle in the dark. Young boys come from the sea with the epitaph on their arms, giving the impression that the epitaph itself emerges from the sea. It will be one of the most atmospheric scenes you've ever experienced!
INFORMATION ABOUT THE LITTLE HARBOUR: Kaminia has a very small harbour that is always full of fishging boats.
