MYLOPOTAS beach
Mylopotas (or Mylopotamos) is the most popular and the most cosmopolitan beach of Ios, full of young and joyful crowd. It is found south west of Chora and can get really crowded during summer. It is a marvelous long sandy beach, that extends for one km and offers soft golden sand and emerald waters.
Many facilities are also offered, such as a variety of water sports, sunbeds, umbrellas, stylish beach and pool bars, cafes, restaurants, mini markets and hotels.
The bay of Mylopotas is quite well protected from the meltemi wind. Right opposite, one may see the island of Sikinos.
Mylopotas can be reached in a few minutes by the bus departing from Hora every 15 minutes.
A very nice fish tavern is found at the southwestern end of the bay, offering a disembarcation jetty for smaller boats and dinghis.
At the southwestern coasts of the bay there are two simple but impressive whitewashed cycladian houses. The one belonged to the famous Greek artist "Gaitis" and the other to his close friend, the french artist, Jean Marie Drot. Now they belong to their families.
KOLITSANI beach
Kolitsani is a small hidden beach at the north of Mylopotas. It has crystaline transparent green-blue waters and soft sand in and out of the sea. It is not organised and not touristic at all. It is frequented by families.
ANCHORAGE INFO: The bay of Mylopotas offers quite good shelter, but not as good as the Port Ios. It is ideal for those who love swimming in crystaline waters. It offers all kinds of facilities, all day and all night long (loud beach bars, restaurants, cafes etc). Moreover, Hora (the center of Ios' night life) is only a few minutes away by bus or taxi. Therefore, it is an ideal anchorage for overnight stay if the weather is convinient. You may use one of the four coves, depending on the winds. There you may find peace and quietness, by being only a few meters away from the crowd.
HOLDING: Good/ Sandy and weedy bottom
