Company Profile
Posidonia Exhibitions S.A. is the leading organiser of trade fairs in Greece and the organiser of the international shipping exhibition “Posidonia”, specialising in trade fairs regarding the international shipping industry. Posidonia Exhibitions S.A. also organises the “Posidonia Maritime Policy Forum” in Athens, which is a one day conference addressing issues of importance to the international shipping community, and the “Posidonia Cup” sailing race in Faliron Bay, Piraeus. The “Posidonia Shipsoccer Tournament”, a one day 5x5 soccer tournament for the shipping industry, as well as the “Posidonia Golf Tournament” were added to the Posidonia sports events agenda.
Posidonia 2012 was the largest in terms of exhibition space and most publicized event in the exhibitions’ 40 year history and has become the largest trade show in Greece. Posidonia 2012 had 1.870 exhibiting companies from 87 countries and was attended by 18.547 visitors from 92 countries. The exhibition had 20 national pavilions from the following countries: Bahamas, Belize, Brasil, Cayman Islands, China, Cyprus, Denmark, Japan, Republic of Korea, Liberia, Malta, The Netherlands, Norway, Panama, Romania, Singapore, Sweden, Turkey, United Kingdom, USA.
Posidonia has long been established as one of the major calendar events of the shipping industry, and Posidonia 2012 attracted the most influential personalities from the Greek and International shipping community and major companies and organisations active in all sectors of the shipping industry.
The Greek Prime Minister traditionally inaugurates the exhibition, in the presence of Heads of State from major shipping nations, foreign Ministers, EU Commissioners, Secretary Generals of International Organisations, Chairmen of International Associations and Organisations and leading personalities of the world of shipping, trade and finance.
Posidonia not only serves as a bridge linking the international shipping industry with the Greek shipowners, who operate the largest fleet globally of over 4000 vessels, the largest under the control of any national group, but also serves as the platform that brings international shipowners in touch with the latest developments in the shipping industry and offers them direct access to the entire range of shipping products and services available on the international shipping market.
Moreover, in 2011 Posidonia Exhibitions S.A. introduced the “Posidonia Sea Tourism Forum: The Challenge for Greece, the Eastern Med and the Black Sea”, a new forum that addresses the prospects of the three components of Sea tourism for the Greek economy: cruise, yachting and passenger shipping. The 2011 forum examined the need for new facilities, structure and services as well as prospective joint ventures that are expected to result in important benefits for Greece as well as the countries in the Eastern Med and the Black Sea. As a result of the great response of the international shipping community to the 1st Posidonia Sea Tourism Forum, Posidonia Exhibitions S.A. announced the 2nd Sea Tourism Forum, to take place 28 and 29 May 2013 in Athens, Greece.
Posidonia 2012 is organised under the auspices of the Ministry of Shipping, Maritime Affairs and the Aegean, the Municipality of Piraeus, the Hellenic Chamber of Shipping, the Union of Greek Shipowners, the Greek Shipping Co-operation Committee, the Hellenic Shortsea Shipowners’ Association and the Association of Passenger Shipping Companies.
