Pisses is one of the best beaches in Kea. It is sandy with crystal blue-green waters, it is not organised and it is found in a cycladian landscape with a valley, flowers, farms and trees. The area has a few rooms-to-let, a nice taverna and and the only organised camping in Kea, with facilities such as showers, cafe, laundry etc. A small ugly hotel spoils the beauty of the scenery but fortunately it is located at the southern side and you may avoid watching it.
Its' west-facing location offers great sunset views and is ideal for late evening swimming. However, besides the westeries, it is affected from the northen winds that prevail in the summer, making the sea "rough" and spoiling its beauty.
Pisses is located apx 11 km from Ioulis (Town), before Koundouros and the trip by car offers a great landscape.
HISTORY: In antiquity Pisses was an agricultural town named Poiessa (Piessa). It was one of the four towns-states of ancient Kaos (Kea), among Karthaia, Ioulida and Korissia, founded between 7th-6th century b.c. On the top of the hill there was an Acropolis with an ancient Temple dedicated to Apollo. Now there is Panagia Sotira church which has remainings of ancient sculptures in its walls. There are still remainings of ancient buildings, fortifications and the ancient city's gate at the northern side of the valley, where the ancient cemetery used to be.
On the road to Korissia there is the historic Aghia Marina Tower. An historic signed path connects Pisses with other sites of the island. It is also worth hiking to the near Vroskopos beach.
