The architecture of Aegina is not typical one of the islands, usually associated to the whitewashed cubic houses with blue windows and doors.

Aegina’s architecture, especially in the capital, is mostly composed of beautiful neoclassical houses, painted in bright colours such as yellow, pink or ochre.

Those wonderful neoclassical buildings date back to the 19th century, when the island had the chance to be the capital of the

 partly liberated Greece for a brief moment, and testify about the wealthy past of the island.

At that particular time period the island of Aegina had the chance to be the capital of the partly liberated Greece, for a brief moment and these buildings still stand today to testify this past prosperous period.

Along with the superb neoclassical houses, traditional Greek blue domed church es, whitewashed chapels, traditional coffee houses, fine squares and stone paved narrow and uphill alleys adorn the island, giving it a unique and magic atmosphere that charms each visitor setting foot on the lovely and picturesque port of the island’s capital.
