TOMPAZI'S MANSION (SCHOOL OF FINE ARTS) in HYDRA
The Tompazi's Mansion houses the School of Fine Arts since 1936. It is an impressive four stories building found on the western side of Hydra's Harbour.
Iacovos Tombazis was another important historic figure of Hydra. He was the first Admiral of the fleet of Hydra, before Andreas Miaoulis.
The mansion is decorated with paintings of historical events and ships. The well known painter Periklis Vizantios (1893 - 1971) contributed the school's creation. Some important personalities of Art and Literature, such as Chagall and Daninos (writer), have lived in this mansion.
Now the School of Fine Arts belongs to the University of Athens and therefore the building is open only to the school's memebers. However visitors may get a peek inside when the school is open.
